How important are data centers in our lives?

A few years ago, I made myself this question and got an blunt answer: our life, in most cities, depends on the proper functioning and availability of one or more data centers. It is no exaggeration. They control almost everything in every segment of human activity: energy, lighting, telecommunications, internet, transport, urban traffic, banks, security systems, public health, entertainment and even our physical integrity.

In short, the welfare and safety of billions of humans are delivered to these centers of control and supervision of data and information. Most people might not worry too much about it. But large corporations and public institutions, on the other hand, have an obligation to take this matter seriously.

A blackout of these centers would prevent us from doing a simple query to Google, since this giant portal stores more than 700 trillion pages of information on thousands of data centers around the world. Many people prefer not to think about the problem, because, they say, can do nothing to change the situation.

What is this thing?

Do a quick search and find a clear definition: Data center is a centralized location resourced with computing and crucial telecommunications – including servers, storage systems, databases, peripherals, access networks, and software applications – operated by trained personnel to use and control industries (government and service companies).

To better understand the trends in these centers, interviewed experts from Gartner Group. Teased them away, accusing the data center to be one of the greatest villains of the environment, for its absurdity energy consumption, by investments that demand brutal and skyrocketing operating costs.

That may be true for 15 or 20 years. Since then, things have changed, says Gartner Experts. Modern data centers are much smaller and modular. That is the big corporate trend: the modular growth. Of course they are still having a long life cycle, but its expansion occurs in a modular fashion. Just as corporations seek this modularity from desktop to mainframe, so too does the data center.

Data centers that I visited recently shown that they consume much less energy and take up much less space.

Grow as the demand for services grows. Sustainability and its impact on the environment is a real concern, with much more positive results for the companies themselves, within the philosophy of “green data center technology”.

Evolution

To Gartner experts, data centers have modern processing capacity that is four times higher than those of the past, while taking up only 40% of the space of the old. And strictly speaking, simple miniaturization of components, but in a constant search for the overall system efficiency, which includes the concepts of virtualization (use of virtual machines) and cloud services.

Modern data centers store more data and information on the racks than before, because it was more difficult to cool them. New technologies that enable not only to increase in density but also assure better cooling. As a result, modern data centers occupy less space. There are also other ways to increase the overall efficiency of the system, such as multizone, with specialized areas at high, medium and low-level processing.

Reducing risks

Another major trend in data centers is the relentless pursuit of higher levels of security, especially those serving the areas of essential services and financial sectors. Big banks need to ensure absolute continuity of services and reduce the risk of interruption or blackouts almost to zero. The same with the telecommunication, especially after the advent of the internet.

Cloud computing is an example of a virtualized system, ultimately, it is a natural evolution for data centers that use automated systems management, workload balancing, and virtualization technologies.

Cloud Services offers a number of benefits that your company can take advantage of :

Costs

The cloud promises to reduce the cost, delivery and maintenance of computational power, allowing companies to buy only the necessary computing services instead of investing in expensive and complex infrastructure.

Low-cost Computers To The User: You do not need a computer to run next generation applications that are hosted in the cloud. As the application runs on the server, not the user’s computer, it does not need many resources on the computers. Thus, we can get lower cost computers, with ability to basically perform the operating system and web browser.

Lower Costs Of IT Infrastructure: The investment that would be made in purchasing ever more powerful servers, may be directed to the hiring of cloud servers and those adequate resources can be easily resized as the business need. It is possible to hire servers that overcome a spike in usage and dismiss them when no longer needed.

Reduce The Cost Of Software: It is no longer necessary to purchase the software, since cloud computing companies charge an amount to provide software as a service. And yet today we have companies that are offering their web based applications for free, which makes it much more interesting than paying the high values of software licensing traditionally charged.

Decreasing Hardware Costs: The cloud providers acquire servers, network equipment, internet connection and many other equipment in large quantities, thus able to negotiate better prices with suppliers and with a much shorter period than most companies.

Lower Investment: When you purchase a server in the cloud, you make a contract in the form of service, like a lease, paying a small amount per month, according to what was contracted. At the end of the contract, you recover your data and return it to the server provider hired. So in addition to not having to face a great investment at the beginning of the service, when the contract ends you are not left with an obsolete server kept in any room of your company.

Scalability

If you are anticipating an increase in your computing needs (or even if you are surprised by a demand), cloud computing can help you manage this demand.

The cloud allows users to suit their specific needs. Cloud computing is infinitely scalable and enables IT infrastructures to be expanded efficiently without the need to make large capital investments.

Increased Computational Power: When a cloud is contracted, there is no limitation on the computing power of a physical machine. With the new computing model, we can perform tasks that require high performance computing by utilizing the power of thousands of servers in the cloud. In other words, you can perform more tasks in the cloud than you can do on the server.

Unlimited Storage Capacity: Likewise, the cloud offers virtually unlimited storage capacity. Thus, it is not necessary to worry if the disk space is running low. When this does occur, simply allocate more disk to the cloud server almost instantly and continue with your work normally.

Maximizing Resources

Cloud computing relieves the burden on already overburdened IT resources. By changing the non-critical data to the cloud, your IT department is free to work in business-related tasks. You also do not need to add more people and specialized training to handle these tasks.

Moreover, as network outages are a nightmare for IT staff, this burden is discharged.

Less Maintenance Problems: In the case of maintenance costs, cloud computing dramatically reduces maintenance costs of hardware and software. With the need for fewer physical servers in the company, maintenance costs are reduced immediately and as cloud applications are in the cloud, there is no software on computers in the organization to maintain.

Software Updates: Another advantage is that, we no longer need to use older software or pay high fees to upgrade them to a newer version. When an application is web-based, updates happen automatically and are available for the next time you use it in the cloud. In the case of cloud servers, the cost of updating software will certainly be much lower than buying the new version.

Best Performance: With regard to performance, the computer must run fewer applications to provide what a user needs. Thus, with fewer programs allocating memory space, not using hard drive space and not using CPU cycles, you may notice a significant improvement of performance of your computer while performing your daily tasks.

Access

The cloud promises universal access to high computing power and storage resources for anyone with a device having access to the internet network.

For example, you do not need to take your documents with you. Instead, they stay in the cloud, where you can access them from anywhere that has an internet connection. All your documents are instantly available. No matter where you are.

Security

Unlike traditional computing, where a hard disk crash can destroy all your data, a computer with problems in the cloud does not affect the storage of your data. This is because, data in the cloud is automatically duplicated, so that nothing is lost. This also means that if your computer crashes while working, all your data will still be in the cloud. In a world where only a few users make backup of data regularly, cloud computing can keep data safe.

Collaboration

For many users, collaborative work is one of the most important advantages of cloud computing. Several people may have access to documents in a project simultaneously. As the document is edited, the changes appear automatically on the screen of other users who are using the document.

In the next article I will discuss the disadvantages, limitations and potential problems when using the cloud.

In this article I will try to present you with information on size of the traffic you are losing every day, because we simply neglect the targeted audience on social networks. Talking on “neglecting the audience”, I don’t say that you do not use them at all, probably every one of us uses them even on the smallest level. We cannot expect that broadcasting an articles on the Twitter account will generate an endless stream of traffic on our internet project but the audience on social networks can help you in promoting your project and at the same time revitalize your website with more traffic.

Twitter - A great social network, which gives us an opportunity to quietly build audience, and even help in indexing the pages of your web-site instantly. In this social network, most visitors come for entertainment and recreation than for serious study, it is more appropriate for fun or philosophical quotes, funny stories and brief new items – that’s what interests the users of the network who use Twitter. You cannot expect that people on social networks will read the huge and boring articles, you need to offer such content to the users that will be a fun and interesting for them.

Facebook - Is a huge social network, but it has its flaws. First, a substantial part of it has a relatively young age, and still associated with this low ability to pay, so you cannot expect that such guests on your website will be able to enrich you sufficiently. The second drawback is that, most of its users come to the social network so thoughtlessly and judiciously spend time and find something new.

In general, these disadvantages can easily send to the pros in order to achieve the desired result, quite know what to present to the audience. A giant plus, which overshadows all defects – is the size of the visitors who have every chance to bring you income. With due diligence, you have the ability to reach tens of thousands of visitors here.

LinkedIn - Considered to be the optimal choice for those users who intends to increase the number of professional contacts. It turns out the number of people using this social network is much more than a contact, along with that of their age and addiction is much more suited to us, because we actually have what they offer, and unflinchingly Be creative, be clustered in a given social network and develop it further growth.

The benefits of such calculations are obvious, and their correct application allows for a fresh look at the use of advanced technologies and their invaluable benefit. The most obvious strategic advantages can be seen by considering aspects such organizations as the finance and operations.

The Financial Benefits Of Cloud Computing

The undeniable advantages of cloud computing is to significantly reduce capital investment. Organization in the process of implementing its activities virtualization technology that uses in-house cloud computing, saving investments by eliminating the additional server hardware and increasing computing power. When a company uses the computing power of external providers of cloud computing , the cost of capital is minimized, the cost focus almost exclusively on operating costs. From this, we can understand that any company can effectively manage costs.

Operational Advantages Of Cloud Computing

Each company introduced the technology cloud computing, is able to simplify the management of the technical structure, abandoning the use of complex and expensive hardware, which leads to cost savings. When using cloud platforms outside vendors, the timing of IT-projects repeatedly reduced, and technical support with cloud solutions can be reduced to a minimum. Providers of cloud solutions offer specially designed tools, including specialized platforms and ready-designed solutions for the major lines of business. In addition, tools are provided to optimize capacity utilization and the ability to control the scaling of applications. Scaling the business of the companies using cloud computing in India allows you to quickly ramp up computing power based on customer requirements. Upon completion of work, when they are not absolutely necessary, power down, which allows efficient use of the company’s budget.

Cloud Computing – The technology of distributed data processing in which some scalable information resources and capacities are provided as a service to multiple external customers through Internet technology.

Cloud computing concept includes all of the following concepts:

IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) – A computer infrastructure, typically presented in the form of virtualization. Is a service within the concept of cloud computing.
PaaS (Platform as a Service) – An integrated platform for the development, deployment, testing and support of web-applications. Presented as a service on the basis of the concept of “cloud hosting“.
SaaS (Software as a service) – Is the business model of software license, which involves the development and support of the software vendor. Customers also have the opportunity of paid use of it, usually through the Internet.
DaaS (Desktop as a Service) – Another business model license the software, which is a slightly improved model of SaaS, mostly involving the use of multiple services at the same time necessary to complete the work. Was first introduced in the early 2000s.

In addition to the above within the concept of cloud computing there are also common notion Data as a service and Everything as a service respectively. Both concepts show that, through the World Wide Web using Cloud Computing, can meet any requirements in the processing of information. This is the main advantage of cloud computing in the IT-based business solutions.

As one of the most promising ways to optimize IT infrastructure, cloud computing is increasingly considered. There are many advantages of Cloud Computing technology, but the question of the reliability of data protection by using the concept of cloud computing is becoming a major deterrent.

To ensure information security, the learning of new techniques and technologies that can record incidents, develop new standards of information security. In particular, it becomes difficult to distinguish who is responsible for what, as cloud computing is an infrastructure significantly different from the traditional model and can be dynamically changed. It should be noted that there is a psychological aspect of this problem. IT outsourcing has not yet received such a development in India as in the West, and many executives are skeptical about the idea of transfer of IT infrastructure services to an outside expert.

As practice shows, the use of cloud computing can even increase the level of data security. One of the reasons – it is a constant concern about the high level of security on the part of companies that provide access to the services of cloud computing. Aware of the concerns of their clients, they have to invest significant resources in building and maintaining a reliable security system. Some providers of IT services in the field of Cloud Computing makes clear emphasis in its marketing of the company to guarantee a high level of security.

The following conditions must be observed to ensure reliable security in cloud services:

1. Cryptographic methods for data safety should be used. All the data that the client is running within the service should be securely encrypted.

2. The very process of transferring information from the client and the server must also be safe, it is necessary to use a secure data transfer protocols to access the server.

If an organization is having control to the operating system of dedicated hosting, it is almost the same as when using the physical hosting or a dedicated server. When you Rent a Server, it also provides, for example, getting your own IP-address, root-directory access, handling ports, making the routing tables. In this case, server rental is cheaper.

Leased virtual server can be used to create your own versions of system libraries. Using Vds server, you can add or, alternatively, delete any files and modify them. Qualitative Vds hosting even allows you to edit the files located in the root and other service directories. The server of this type provides the possibility of installing your own applications and customize any pre-installed software.

All of these capabilities become available because VDS rented server is able to emulate the operation of a physical server, but is configured and administered separately. Emulates the physical server using the principles of virtualization hardware environment. High-quality dedicated hosting on the virtual server is organized by a group of powerful physical servers arranged in a cluster that is running multiple virtual servers.

The internet is one of the fastest growing media in today’s India and the world, everyone knows. But even living in this digital age, many business owners are still close to this online world and do not want to believe that having a digital presence today, it is absolutely necessary.

Therefore, we have compiled some data on the current growth of the Internet in India, to help you convince that customer basis with more resistant to digital.

A survey showed how technology in India is becoming more democratic. The latest survey showed that Indians with low-income are also connected to the Internet and the number is growing at a rapid pace.

The number of Internet users in India is expected to triple by 2016.

The higher growth of internet access in the last six years, the Indians were above 50 years.

Today we have 160 million Indian browsing on computers and laptops using cloud computing solutions to store their important data.

The distinction between Virtualization and Cloud Computing is crucial and necessary for business. For many companies and professionals both are the same. Although Cloud computing uses virtualization, virtualization and cloud computing are not the same thing. They treat IT challenges in various sizes and operated at different scopes with different levels of impact on a business.

Some quick comparisons between virtualization and cloud computing solutions:

Virtualization is technical, Cloud Computing is business
Virtualization is for technical IT, Cloud Computing is for all
Virtualization is not governed, Cloud Computing is governed

Virtualization

Virtualization isolates computing resources, thus offering an opportunity to change and consolidate the isolated resources to better use and greater efficiency.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is the ability to make resources available on demand. Cloud computing is “service” and “service” is about the availability and responsiveness to market opportunities that are relevant.

Cloud Computing consists of the following:

Self-Service on Demand : If someone wants to access your cloud resources, they must be available, no matter what that means. The client company must be able to access (and change the access to) resources in the cloud without interacting with anyone.

Extensive Network Access : Above all, the most vital feature of cloud computing is the fact What is network based and accessible from anywhere, from any standardized platform (ie, desktop computers, mobile devices, etc..).

Public Cloud: Various customers may be using the same set of resources, at the same time.

Quick Elasticity : The purpose of sharing resources is to avoid the capital expenditure required for the creation of the network and computing infrastructure. The reason why these costs are so high is because companies must respond to peaks in demand for their services. By outsourcing to a cloud, the demand becomes “damped” by the size of the cloud provider and computing capability. The risk of failures and service interruptions is significantly reduced.

Service Measured : The cloud provider should essentially act as an electric utility, measuring the amount of service provided and reacting accordingly (both in terms of customer billing, and upgrading hardware and software, as appropriate).

With scenes of earthquakes, floods and tsunamis in different regions of the world, still fresh in our memory, companies are more aware than ever that are planning and doing preparation, especially with regard to critical business systems, such as contact centers, are fundamental.

Legislative initiatives, now require that companies analyze how they can support their contact center in a disaster situation. There are several factors that companies should consider when planning a full program of disaster recovery. We must consider all possibilities, but especially, to recognize that the term disaster encompasses a number of unpleasant situations and the contact center may face specific problems such as the building being damaged or downtime, power failure, equipment destroyed or disabled, network and data corrupted, lost or disabled, security systems affected, among others.

Disaster recovery can have different meanings for people, but regardless of whether the setting is focused on high availability, recovery, and system redundancy, it is important to be sensitive to the technology that the company has as to the processes around this technology. Before the organization can develop a disaster recovery plan efficiently, we need to answer questions about contact center technology, such as: The system is redundant for yourself? Does the inner workings have redundancy? You can run two systems, one primary and the other as backup in different locations? Each system can be configured to support all transactions if one of the systems fails? Is it possible to start the system remotely without manual intervention?

Preparation of People and Processes in the Disaster Recovery Plan

It is not enough to have backup technology. The company must also have procedures for each type of disaster in every possible location. For example, does the contact center employees know what to do if business continuity is interrupted? Do they know where to continue the work, or if they have access to hosted applications that allow them to remotely access contact center applications from damaged facilities? There will be agents in other geographic areas they can access the system and services of the affected areas? New applications are required for self-service to free agent capabilities to critical questions necessary? The solutions in the locality allow customer service uniformly, if agents have no familiarity to take positions, and the agents were informed about this possibility? Is there someone who takes responsibility for ensuring that the voice options self-service update automatically? CRM solutions premises will enable uniform access to customer information, and the agents were trained to use the applications?

Also, if the company is outsourcing any part of contact center initiatives, one should make sure that the vendor has their own recovery plans in place.

Finally, the best disaster recovery plan is useless if it is not updated continuously and if not regularly tested. Often, the call centers invest much time, money and other resources for the development of a plan, but make the mistake of ignoring the maintenance required to keep the plan work effectively and efficiently. The financial impact of relying on an untested or outdated plan can be devastating.

The natural and technological disasters can be disastrous for business too, but not necessarily. Companies that proactively select and implement appropriate technologies and disaster recovery processes can minimize interruptions in customer service and keep receipts arising despite unexpected events.
